The Diminishing Prairie

The Diminishing Prairie

I made these two photograms to represent how the prairie is diminishing; only about one percent of prairies in North America are left. Prairies used to cover one-third of North America even. Many prairies have been plowed down to be used for cropland and cities. This is especially concerning since prairies are one of the most diverse ecosystems, only surpassed by the Brazilian rainforest. With humans causing ecological simplification of these prairies, we are experiencing biodiversity loss, which can have large eco-consequences that can devastate the land and our health. I think it would be beneficial to see more action taken to live in tandem with our prairies, instead of suppressing them.
